Dear Kate.

Dear Kate,

You left for the U of U today and I’m already missing you more than ever!  I don’t leave for BYU for a few more days, but it just seems wrong going to school without you.  We’ve been best friends ever since our first theater class together sophomore year. Do you remember?  Our teacher cast us as cousins in our scene, but it seems like life has cast us as sisters instead! Moving my sophomore year was hard at first, but the transition was easy after I met you. Although I left so many things behind in Colorado, you gave me something irreplaceable… friendship. 

Kate, I truly admire you.  You are incredible.  Your beautiful glow gives you such a warm presence, and you are such a joy to be around with your captivating spirit.

I LOVE hearing you sing! Whenever I hear you I can’t help but smile because I know you’re doing what you love. 

Growing up with you on the stage of our high school has been my honor.  It has been such a joy to work with you and watch you perform.  I’ll never forget the days we spent rehearsing for hours and hours; crying together when we felt frustrated, letting each other vent when we felt hurt, giving each other pep-talks when we needed a good kick in the rear, sharing our snacks, and cheering each other on no matter how hard things got.  Despite all the difficult days, we always kept pushing each other along because we both knew the end product would be well worth the work.

Thank you for all that you’ve taught me.  From learning to ski, to speaking French, you’re beautiful mind taught me something new every day.

I’m going to miss catching up with you in the halls and sharing a quick lunch at Kneader’s together.  I’m going to miss our “attempts” at making gourmet food together.  I’m going to miss our long talks on my trampoline, at the park, and in the car.  I’m going to miss practicing for auditions together, sharing notes from class, and discussing our futures.  I’m going to miss laughing with you when we do something stupid or when one of our “good ideas” goes wrong.  I’m going to miss a lot of things, Kate! But most of all, I’m just going to miss YOU in my life every day. 

Dear Kate,
You left for college today.  Make new friends, have new experiences, and sing new songs… all I ask is that you keep me posted.

P.S.  Our schools may disapprove of each other at our rivalry games, but just know… I approve of you.   ;)
