“And this, our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones, and good in everything.” – William ShakespeareFirst of all, I am thankful for the world that we live in. We are so fortunate to live in this country where freedom is so highly valued, in a time when we have so many opportunities open to us. There are still problems that need to be solved, of course, but the world is such an incredible place full of wonderful people. And we are so lucky to live where we live. It is such a humbling, awe-inspiring experience to look up at the mountains every day and see the majesty of nature, and then look out over the city and see the power of human innovation. Plus, there is great skiing :]

Which brings us to another point. Throughout the year, one of my biggest complaints and insecurities is my body. But now is the time to take a leaf out of Heidi’s book and be thankful that my body allows me to do so many amazing things! I can run and jump, and hike, and swim, and ski… and even kind of dance! And I can see and touch and taste and feel the wonderful world around me…
“My limbs work, so I'm not going to complain about the way my body is shaped.” – Drew Barrymore
“Music. A meaningless acceleration in the rhythm of celestial experience.” – C.S. LewisAnd I can hear. I am so thankful that I can hear music, not only with my ears, but with my soul. There is something so inexpressibly pure and honest about music. It is one of the strongest connective forces and beautiful languages in the universe. The ancient Greek myth of Orpheus, whose music made the stones weep and softened the heart of death itself, shows how old the idea is that music can change the world. And, speaking of the importance of the arts in our society…
“I had a friend once who met Mother Teresa. She told her that she wanted to help people and asked if she could join the charity mission in India. Mother Teresa asked her what she did. ‘I’m an actress,’ she said. ‘My country has a famine of the body,’ Mother Teresa replied. ‘Yours has a famine of the soul. Stay here. Continue acting.’” - Anne BogartI am so thankful to have found what I am truly passionate about. I know that art, and specifically theatre, can change the world. It is so wonderful to have discovered a way in which I can help people and make a difference; and it still amazes me that I can study and perform every day. How many people are lucky enough to say that the thing they love to do and are most passionate about is also their job? It can be a rough road, but that is what makes it so rewarding.
I'm thankful for the trials and challenges that life has to offer. I’m thankful to have been granted the courage to fail and the strength to get back up and try again. I’m thankful that I don’t know everything, because there is still so much for me to learn. I’m thankful that I have the capacity to love, even when it hurts. I know that with every obstacle in my path, I am being given a chance to try to overcome it. Whether I leap over it or stumble around it, I am still moving forward and becoming a better person.
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.” – J.R.R. Tolkien
“At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.” – Albert SchweitzerI am so very very thankful for the love and support that my family and friends give to me. They have definitely shaped who I am today and continue to inspire me to be a better person! And I’m so grateful to have met you. I know we were meant to come into each others' lives. Thank you for sharing your light with me. Hope you are doing well, I can’t wait to see you again!
Above all, I am thankful for laughter, love, and life, and I will hold them in my heart all year long.“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” – John F. Kennedy
Happy Thanksgiving!
